Tacoma Creates is a community supported initiative to increase access to arts, culture, heritage, and science experiences throughout Tacoma by reducing barriers to access and expanding offerings, particularly for underserved youth. In November 2018, Tacoma voters approved Tacoma Creates by 67.2%, passing in every reporting precinct. Tacoma Creates is the first Cultural Access Program under RCW 36.160 to be enacted in Washington State.
Thank you, Tacoma, for supporting Tacoma Creates, which provides critical funding for arts organizations around the city, including Museum of Glass. The Museum appreciates Tacoma Creates for its support of our impactful community programs, including:
After school programs and summer camps
Festivals such as Glass Fest Northwest and IN THE SPIRIT Arts Market and Northwest Native Festival
Special exhibitions
Veterans Day at MOG
Visiting Artist Residencies for underrepresented groups
Tacoma Creates is funded through a sales tax of one-tenth of one percent. The programs listed above are examples of how the Museum and other arts organizations are putting this money to work.
