December 21 • 5–9pm • Regular Museum Admission
Join Museum of Glass for a festive holiday evening as we welcome the Tacoma Yacht Club’s annual Lighted Boat Parade to the Thea Foss Waterway! Enjoy the parade from the Museum’s Grand Plaza, where we’ll have an outdoor fireside station set up to keep everyone toasty while they enjoy the lights. Inside the Museum, explore newly opened exhibitions Field Notes: Artists Observe Nature and Nancy Callan: Forces at Play through docent-led tours, watch live glassblowing in the Hot Shop and flameworking demos in the Grand Hall, create your own works of art in glass in one of our Glass Tile Workshops or By the Furnace: Hot Shop Experience sessions, and more.
Café Perk will also have extended hours during the Fireside event, so you can cozy up by the fire with a special holiday beverage!
Glass Tile Workshops and By the Furnace: Hot Shop Experience sessions require paid reservations. All other activities are included with general admission. Visitors attending the Museum with standard admission during regular daytime hours on December 21 are welcome to stick around for the Fireside Holiday Night event.
Lineup of Activities
Glass Tile Workshops – Full Fusing
Learn the art of fusing! Working with cold, flat glass sheets and decorative elements, fusing allows you to layer glass pieces together into a design of your own. Create a 3x3 inch glass tile by collaging together sheet glass, pasta-like stringers, and powdered glass. Once your design is complete it will be fired in our electric kiln to produce one solid, smooth work of art.
Pricing: $20 per person (50% off the usual price!)
By the Furnace: Hot Shop Experience – Ornaments
Here’s your chance to work on the Hot Shop floor! Assisted by Hilltop Artists, you’ll work as the gaffer to create your very own blown glass ornament. Learn how to choose colors, block and shape the glass, and add your own twist to your work of art.
Pricing: $85 per person / $80 for MOG members
