Job Title: Art Handler/Installer

Reports to: Registrar, Lead Preparator or Exhibition Designer

Status:Part-Time (Short Term Project/Intermittent)

Description

Working as part of a team of art handler/installers, this individual is primarily responsible for facilitating the installation of exhibitions per the Museum exhibition program. This includes exhibitions within the main galleries as well as outdoor installations.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Installing and deinstalling exhibitions/outdoor installations according to plans of Exhibition Designer, Registrar or designated Curatorial staff
  • Fabricating exhibit props and mounts (under the direction of the Exhibition Designer)
  • Matting and framing works for exhibition
  • Preparing and packing/unpacking objects for travel, and assisting with incoming and outgoing shipments
  • Moving objects and/or materials under the direction of the Exhibition Designer, Registrar or designated Curatorial staff
  • Completing finish work for exhibitions/outdoor installations including lighting, leveling, cleaning, labeling and signage
  • Performing other exhibition duties as assigned
  • Maintenance and housekeeping of galleries and exhibits

Minimum Qualifications

    3 - 5 years art handling and installation experience in a museum, gallery or professional art studio, or equivalent.

Special Requirements

    Knowledge of safe art handling procedures. Ability to work under pressure and adhere to aggressive changeover schedule. Ability to safely lift 50 lbs.
