Description
The Marketing and PR Intern will receive an overview of the way a professional Marketing and Communications Department works in a medium-sized, non-profit arts organization. The department's areas of responsibility cover marketing, advertising, public relations, community outreach, communications (including the website and Museum newsletter), and special promotions and events. The intern will be involved in department meetings where overview of tasks, including responsibility, timeline and strategy, will be discussed.
The job description below is an indicator of the type of experience you might expect from a Museum of Glass internship. Not all activities are guaranteed; timing and length of the internship will dictate a prioritization of functions.
Typical Duties
- Organize press clippings and disseminate relevant articles related to the Museum and art community to Museum staff.
- Conduct annual visitor survey and compile data (summer).
- Draft press releases.
- Assemble and maintain inventory of press kits.
- Assist with design and production of miscellaneous marketing materials, such as flyers, postcards, coupons, etc.
- Assist with the organization of information and represent the Museum at community events.
- Assist with the organization of files and other department materials
- Contact community partners and distribute marketing and publicity materials, as appropriate.
- Escort reporters and photographers.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Marketing and Communications department and the Museum of Glass
Minimum Qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Familiar with a wide array of software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Internet Explorer. Familiarity with graphic design software, such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, and HTML language also desirable
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Ability to work in a faced paced environment with changing priorities
