Breathe by Warren Langley

Warren Langley, Breathe (2004)

Main Plaza Installation
August 7, 2004 - April, 2007

The physics of light are important design elements for artists who work in glass. Australian artist Warren Langley takes these elements to a larger scale, creating sculptures of light, often placed in water.

Breathe, 2004, is composed of fiber optics encased in long extremely flexible tubes. In the artist's words, the work "breathes, gently swaying with every movement in the surrounding air."

By day, Breathe appears as a sweeping arc of blue. As twilight approaches, the work changes, as the internal illumination and its reflection in the pool dominate.
