Northwest Artists Collect
Organized by Museum of Glass in conjunction with University of Washington Tacoma Interns
January 19 – October 2013
Northwest Artists Collect offers a glimpse into the world of seven Pacific Northwest glass artists through their collections. The exhibition presents the influence of collecting in the creative process as artists collaborate and exchange ideas. By displaying each artist’s original work alongside personal collected items, viewers will gain a deeper understanding of the artists’ inspirations. Participating artists are: Martin Blank, Joseph Rossano, Richard Royal, Ginny Ruffner, Preston Singletary, Cappy Thompson and Dick Weiss.
This exhibition is the result of an internship program conceived by Museum of Glass and the University of Washington Tacoma. The selection and display of each featured object was influenced by the students who visited artists’ homes and studios to explore the relationship between collections and creations.
Benjamin Moore: Translucent
Organized by Museum of Glass in conjunction with University of Washington Tacoma Interns
February 16 – October 2013
For over 30 years, Studio Glass pioneer Benjamin Moore has explored three series of vessel forms: Interior Fold, Exterior Fold, and Palla. Celebrated for his combination of European design with American inventiveness, Moore's newest work continues to leave color and embellishment behind as he explores new heights of austerity, simplicity and minimalist perfection. Translucent, presents a selection of Moore’s masterpieces that simultaneously evoke aspects of historical tradition with the refinement of a unique contemporary aesthetic.
