Fred Tschida is a jovial fellow, and it’s been fun to chat with him during the residency. He’s made some cool work and it will be interesting to see the completed molecular form when it’s finished.

The bulk of the residency has been making large glass beads that have a hole drilled while hot. Fred plans to use these in a large molecule-like sculpture. In the afternoons the last couple days, Fred has been branching out and making cylinders–yesterday’s had several glass balls attached, and today’s had round bumps.

My work relies strongly on my basic interest in physical phenomenon and the inherent qualities of different materials. Learning about light, gravity, electricity, mass and atmosphere has triggered endless questions for which my experimentation and research seeks answers.
Sometimes the answer manifests itself as an object or exhibition. Nonetheless, all of my exploration and investigation has broadened dramatically my understanding of the world and my relationship to it as an artist.
