Beginning Day Two

By Jeremy Lepisto, August 30, 2007 | George, Mel; Lepisto, Jeremy

It is the morning of day two here at the Tacoma Glass Museum Hot Shop. With the raw of the furnace in the background, and anticipation of seeing the results of yesterdays blow time is mounting.

Our crew of amazing glass blowers, Alex, Gabe and Courtney, with a back up crew of Liz, Ben, Walter, and Sara were more than generous with their skills. Jeremy worked on some blow molds creating the shape of a hollow rectangle that he will later draw on. He plans on each to represent an entire “City Block” from Anytown, USA.

Mel created some hollow vessels, which were inspired by very simplified trees. Whilst the piece was still hot, an embossed “piece of string” was drawn around the vessel to evoke a sense of memory. The string was inspired by when you tie a piece of string around your finger as to not forget something.

We would like to thank the Museum of Glass for this tremendously exciting opportunity and for the amazing treatment. The glory holes are calling……….
