Marvin Lipofsky’s Process Video

By Justin Kuravackal, July 17, 2007 | Video; Lipofsky, Marvin

During his residency, Marvin worked with our team to make some very large abstract forms, often combining many glassblowing techniques and many colors. In this video, watch as the team does color overlays, picks up cane, and blows into an open-faced mold to create a form in Marvin’s signature style. Later, he will cut away portions of this piece, revealing multi-colored layers and the colors of the inside of the bubble. Marvin may also sandblast the entire form or parts of it before arriving at the finished sculpture.

We spent four great hours watching Marvin and the Hot Shop crew. Thanks for a wonderful experience. Special thanks to Alex for giving our grand-daughter a glass horse of his making. In all a truly outstanding day for us all.
