MOG Blogs Visiting Artists

Martin Blank’s Video Intro

By Justin Kuravackal, July 7, 2007 | Video; Blank, Martin

We hit the ground running from the very first moments of Martin’s residency. Skipping our typical meeting with the artist, Martin, his cold-worker, Alex, and our curatorial staff were installing some of Martin’s work in the alcove as you enter the Hot Shop. It’s a mockup of a proposal for an installation in our main reflecting pool. Todd Pottinger, the MOG video guru, shot this intro video with Martin during the installation process. Way to multi-task, Martin!

In the final installation, the alcove is painted black, and the steam forms really pop. You’ll see it right as you walk in the Hot Shop doors.

What a treat to meet Martin and his crew in person yesterday during part of the installation of Fluent Steps. Martin, thank you for your time and consideration as you answered questions about your vision and your work. I can’t wait until April 18th to see the completed creation. I enjoyed hearing more of your thoughts about your inspiration in Todd’s short video. Stunning work from a very gifted artist! Thanks again, Marcia
