MOG Blogs Visiting Artists

Summer Series Starts Today!

By Justin Kuravackal, June 13, 2007 | Martin, Patrick; General

Summer Series is what we call our annual, rapid-fire, high-intensity summer of visiting artist residencies. Every week from today until the beginning of September, a different renowned artist is here for 5 days working with our Hot Shop Team of glassblowers. Many of our visiting artists are also teaching summer courses at Pilchuck Glass School.  Each week is a different personality, a different aesthetic, a different vision. Getting to talk with and observe all these artists work is one of my favorite parts of working at the Museum.

Every year, we post photos and video from the summer residencies on the website. This year we’ve built a blog just for visiting artists. All the media about the artists will be here, and hopefully several of the artists will make time during their busy residencies to post their own thoughts on the process. And we hope that you will participate and make it a discussion. Leave your thoughts and feedback about the residencies and the ideas brought up on this blog.

This week, Patrick Martin is in the shop.  He’s brought along sketches for a new body of sculptural work involving pill bottles, fumigators and other common objects which he plans to use in uncommon and metaphorical installations.
