The pipe warmer is an open-faced insulated box that is used to preheat blowpipes and punties before they are used. The metal rods must be preheated because molten glass will not stick to cold metal.

The powder or dust box is a ventilated area where color, in the form of powder, is added to the surface of glass. This process can be very hazardous because the fine particles of glass are toxic if inhaled. Ventilation in the box draws airborne powder away from the workers.
