ART of Women
Please join the Traver Gallery and Falling Rain Cellars for an evening event celebrating great taste!
Event Date: Sunday, May 24th, 5-7pm
Featuring music by violinist John Bartley
The Traver Gallery and Falling Rain Cellars are proud to host an inspiring event for art and wine enthusiasts Sunday, May 24th from 5-7pm at Traver Gallery Tacoma. The ART of Women event will feature an artist talk with exhibiting artist Nancy Blair and complimentary wine tasting with winemaker Judith Papesh.
The ART of Women will explore the sensibilities of two extraordinary women, their inspiration, process and roles in their crafts.
Nancy Blair is an acclaimed artist and author. Her current exhibition Of Myth and Memory is a continuation of the artist’s Royal Medicine Dog and Golden Retriever Series. The narrative works stem from Nancy’s lifelong interest in the shamanic healing arts of ancient and indigenous cultures. She reconstructs everyday objects in cast glass, ceramics, and paper, to create a powerful menagerie of metaphorical figures that demand attention and reverence. Nancy will be working in the Museum of Glass hot shop Wednesday, May 20th through Sunday, May 24th.
Owner, barrel queen, and winemaker, Judith Papesh blends a wide array of varietals from various vineyards across Washington State to create provocative wines that live up to the whimsy in their name (Mischief, Cloudburst and Irisé). She considers winemaking as an art as well as a science. “It is a consuming passion that drives you during the day, keeps you up at night and when the blend is right, simply leaves you breathless.” Judith will be sharing some of her favorite vintages - including “Mischief”, a blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and malbec grapes, and “Cloudburst” a blend of syrah, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and malbec.
