Traver Gallery - Tacoma is proud to present an exhibition of new glass sculpture by artist Martin Blank. This latest body of work debuts at Traver Gallery in conjunction with the unveiling of the artist’s permanent installation, Fluent Steps, at the Museum of Glass. The sculptures featured at the gallery were inspired by the process of working on the Fluent Steps installation, a project that has been the central focus for the artist since the commission was awarded by the Museum of Glass.

Martin Blank sees his work as carving space- creating tension between sculptural forms that evoke compelling landscapes that are revealed by the juxtaposition of sculptural elements. In the artist’s words, “It always intrigues me when the forms reveal a negative space that is as vital and potent as the actual objects.” Dynamic sculpture is as much about the mass as it is the void. Blank’s exploration of positive and negative space and form creates a fascinating interplay between the sculptures themselves and the space they inhabit.

As part of this exhibition, Traver Gallery and the Museum of Glass are teaming to donate a portion of any sales from Blank’s exhibition to funding the Fluent Steps project. 20% of all works purchased during the exhibition will be contributed as tax-deductible donations through the Museum of Glass to funding Fluent Steps. The installation, a monumental project that fills the 210 ft reflecting pool outside of the museum and neighbors the gallery, will be unveiled on Saturday, April 18th in conjunction with the first day of this exhibition.

Martin Blank’s work is represented in galleries throughout the United States and is held by museums around the world including The Boston Museum of Fine Art, Montreal Museum of Fine Art, Corning Museum of Glass, Museum of Glass, Millennium Museum Beijing, The Shanghai Museum of Fine Art and the American Embassy in Slovakia.
