Tall Ships…
The Tall Ships® Tacoma 2008 Festival is a free international sailing event and festival that is part of the American Sail Training Association’s Tall Ships CHALLENGE®. More than 32 sailing vessels will visit Tacoma during the festival and will be available for tours and sailing adventures. The festival will be held along Tacoma’s Foss Waterway from July 3-7, 2008.
Community Workshop:
July 4th:
Beware of Pirates and Sea Sirens
Ahoy Maties! Enjoy the Tall Ships Festivities and then join artist Diane Kurzyna in the Grand Hall for a pirate and mermaid themed work shop. Don’t walk the plank and miss out!
Volunteer Opportunity:
MOG is seeking pirates and sea sirens to help with this workshop. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Elisabeth Emerson!
MOG Visitors:
Museum visitors are ‘in the same boat’ as Tall Ships visitors. They cannot drive on Dock Street nor park in our garage. They will have to find parking at the other museums, Tacoma Dome, Tacoma Dome Station, UWT, or any of the parking lots in the downtown area. There will be frequent, free shuttle buses covering the area. www.tallshipstacoma.com/transportation_and_parking
How to get here if you are volunteering between July 3rd - 7th:
Access via vehicle to the Museum of Glass will be limited:
You will not be able to drive on Dock Street without a Tall Ships Pass. The museum received a limited number of passes and those volunteering during Tall Ships will receive their parking pass in advance.
The only way to get to the museum is across the new D Street overpass, so you might want to practice how to find it from Puyallup Ave. All other routes will be closed to incoming traffic. When you are leaving, you can exit via 4th to Schuster Parkway, but you may not want to battle the bottleneck. It may be easier to exit via D Street as well.
Dock Street will be two-way traffic from D Street to the Esplanade (the new condo building). Dock Street will be one-way northbound from the Esplanade, through the 15th Street light all the way to Schuster Parkway.
Do not even think of parking on Dock Street. You will be towed and ticketed for sure.
