UPDATE: Two Plaza Projects
There are two new outdoor installation projects IN PROGRESS for the Museum. I thought you might like an overview:
Joseph Rossano / Mirrored Murrelets / Middle Plaza and Reflecting Pool
*In January, Joe created 200 glass stylized murrelets in the Hot Shop.
*Mirroring the inside of birds (at Chihuly Studio in Tacoma) is underway. Estimated completion date: April 16.
*Joe will return to MG to coldwork birds. 1 day/Sunday preferred/ date tbd.
*Plaza benches are scheduled to be fabricated in April.
*Birds will be assembled with installation hardware at Rossano Studio in May.
*Installation dates on middle plaza: June 2 – 6, 2008.
*Mirrored Murrelets will be in place for 18 months.
*Joe Rossano is producing a documentary of the project
*MG will develop a traveling exhibition packet and research traveling the installation
Martin Blank / Fluent Steps (working title) / Main Reflecting Pool
*Martin’s residency is a total of 38 days to create glass elements for Fluent Steps (working title), a main plaza reflecting pool installation.
*Martin will be on vacation April 7 – 11. His team will work here in his absence on April 9, 10, 11.
*Last days of glass sculpting here are Monday/Tuesday, June 23 and 24.
*Small booklets produced by MBStudios of the proposal will be for sale in store soon (probably 1 week).
*A model of the project created by MBStudios will installed on the balcony overlooking Grand Hall. Temporary installation starting Tuesday, April 1st.
*Martin Blank Studios has rented nearby studio space for assembly of the installation. Martin and team will assemble the installation and create final layout at the studio space before installation at the Museum.
*Tentative Installation dates: September 29 – October 3, 2008.
*MG is producing a documentary of the project.
*Fluent Steps (working title) will be a permanent installation owned by the Museum.
