MOG LOG: July 31, 2007
Visitor Number One Million
The Museum will cross this milestone before the end of this week.
Café Will Reopen After Red Hot Gala
Galucci’s has won the contract to operate the café and provide catering for all Museum and private after-hours events. (Of course, preferred caterers that are already booked for a scheduled upcoming event are fine.)
Galucci’s will open the café after September 15. Not only is the Museum dependent on the café space for the Red Hot auction, but it will take several weeks to obtain the required permits and otherwise prepare to open a new operation.
Water Forest
In theory, the long-promised reinstallation of this City-owned public art on the main plaza will begin August 6 and will take about a week to complete.
I-5 Construction in Tacoma beginning Wednesday, August 1
This week WSDOT and its contractor, Woodworth and Company of Tacoma, will begin a project to widen the southbound I-5 on-ramp at the Port of Tacoma Road interchange. During the two-month project, motorists should prepare for narrowed, shifted lanes on the on-ramp and four complete on-ramp closures.
Single, right lane closures on southbound I-5 (in the project vicinity) and restrictions to Port of Tacoma Road will also occur. This work is weather dependent, and most of the work is scheduled during nighttime hours to lessen the impact to drivers. Work hours are 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 p.m. Fridays to 8 a.m. Saturdays; 8 p.m. Saturdays to 10 a.m. Sundays.
The first of four complete on-ramp closures occurs Wednesday, Aug. 1 beginning at 10 p.m. The ramp will reopen at 5:30 a.m.
Thursday.
This $1.5 million widening project is the result of a partnership among WSDOT, Port of Tacoma, and the City of Fife. Motorists are reminded to slow down and drive carefully through this and all work zones. For traffic and road updates, drivers can visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/ or dial 511.
Really Big I-5 Construction August 10-29
You have all received notice of this upcoming construction, which will close several lanes of I-5 Northbound from the West Seattle Bridge to I-90. The WSDOT anticipates that traffic will be impacted all the way to Tacoma. This could be seriously inconvenient for just about everyone, including unsuspecting out-of-town visitors.
