Field Trip to SAM at Volunteer Park
Five docents and staff members Ryan Branchini and Meredith Hale enjoyed a trip to Seattle on October 10th to view glass art collected by John and Mary Shirley. (Thanks to Meredith, we were given reciprocal free admission since SAM docents have been granted the same privilege at MoG.) The exhibit contained many striking pieces, among them work of familiar Northwest artists who have been exhibited at the Museum of Glass, work by Harvey Littleton and some of his students, and contemporary Czech artists.
Photography by Joseph Namkung, a Trimpin installation, paintings of Morris Graves, Buddhist statuary, and Art Deco sculptures from the Museum’s collection were other featured exhibits. A walk through the historic Conservatory in Volunteer Park—with its seductive orchids and other tropical and desert plants, followed by an outdoor lunch at a neighborhood Thai restaurant, concluded our treat to the senses.
