Evaluation of the preschool tours during July and August:

The basic format for preschool tours has worked well and children were very responsive to each segment. Using images in Best in Show, especially the Jackson Pollock-inspired pictures by David Gihooly, led to a fun art project.

The issue of scheduling this more specialized tour package has been addressed and hopefully we can always be prepared to give each group a good experience.

One of our tour groups wondered why the preschoolers didn’t tour all the exhibits. Communicating about what we do with the kids and why we limit the time in the gallery is important, but letting them return to the gallery on their own to see more is always an option we should mention.

After Best in Show leaves, using the Morris exhibition will be a great opportunity to introduce our young visitors to artifacts and cave paintings. Plans for the Studio activities include clay making artifacts and drawing on the wall in the Studio, along with a group project of primitive images on a “buffalo hide” to take home as a reminder of their visit.

Information about the preschool tours will be included in a press release and on the MG web site.

Thank you Dr. and Mrs. Phibbs for visiting during one of the tours, we appreciate your support.
