From the Docent Council:
The Docent Council met on May 19th at 4:30 pm in the Museum Board Room. One of the first actions taken was the approval of a ballot for voting on proposed changed in the Docent Association Bylaws and for the slate of candidates running for the Docent Council, which is included in the June edition of Bits of Frit.
A field trop to the Bellevue Art Museum to see the Artful Teapot exhibition is being planned for the last week of July. The show includes Pilchuck Glass School artists from the 1970’s and features 75 pieces of glass by artist who should be very familiar to Museum of Glass docents and volunteers.
Communication Committee Chair, Maureen Drucker, announced that the semi-annual Communications Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 19th, at the Mandolin Café at 10:00 am. Any interested member of the Docent Association is invited to attend.
Education Committee Chair, Annette Holzworth, reported that flyers for preschool tours were mailed in April to Puget Sound area preschoolers and day car facilities. The purchase of folding six foot long tables with adjustable legs has been approved for this program.
Annette also announced that the proposed Best in Show, Family Guide has been cancelled. In its place, there will be a sketchbook style guide targeted to families with 3 – 8 year olds for the Ginny Ruffner exhibition, The Flowering Tornado, produced by the Education Department.
VickiKay Spalding is coordinating Diversity Mermaid Day which will be held in conjunction with the Tall Ships Tacoma celebration. The even will be on July 2nd and 3rd, from 1 – 4 pm on the esplanade and will cost $5.00.
VickiKay reminded the Docent Council that during the Tall Ships event Dock Street will be closed to the general public. The Museum is in the process of getting passes so that Museum staff and volunteers can access the parking garage.
