de la Torre Kiosk Comments
At this point in time, there are over 500 comments logged into the interactive kiosk at the back of the North Gallery, making this a meaningful addition to the Einar and Jamex de la Torre: Intersecting Time and Place exhibition. The responses show that the format is a great way for the public to respond to the exhibition, regardless of whether or not the individuals likes the art.
In case you have not had time to visit the kiosk, here is a small sampling of comments. [Note from the editor: for this format I have abbreviated some of the visitor’s names].
“very gorey, im not sure if i really like it…they could maybe play down the blood a bit but i suppose it is the theme and reason for it. im not sure which one I liked best…the pices are very intricate and through out but not my style. it opened my to a new side of glass. thank you – [R.W.] student, Washington”
“I was very moved by the exhibit. All of the pieces reminded me of the constant flow of information available today. I like to see art that makes the view think, and this exhibit did just that for me. I liked the use of alcohol and popular culture, felt it showed how big a part they play in all of society. I really liked the tern MexicaniDada. I felt it best described their work. – mthead, musician, Seattle”
“Love the work…it’s beautiful and loud and totally accessible. Very interesting religious and political statements as well – Deb, Massage therapist, Seattle”
“A soul stirring exhibit. It gave the visitor an internal and voyeuristic insight to the complexity of living in two worlds socially linked but racially and philosophically separated. I would have any piece in my house, office or dashboard! [V.L], Workplace Diversity Consultant, Spokane”
“Amazing stuff – Mass, High School Teacher, New Jersey”
“I THINK THAT THE ART WORK WAS COOL AND FUNNY AND THAT IT IS COOL HOW THEY MADE THE GLASS. I LIKE THE FAIRISWHELL THAT HAD HEART – [M. K.] STUDENT, TACOMA”
“I do not know what this ART is about. I do not feel good looking at it and I feel sad to think this is what Art cold be. Keep Trying you might do better. – Ray, Mechanic, Canada
“The simplest works in this collection are the best, they allow one’s mind to focus and experience the concepts together in a meaningful way – not intellectually complex or layered, merely gratuitous without the benefit of intricate, fine detail. It detracts from any overall response, diverts the mind and the eyes and loses momentum. Future works in this vein should work on higher quality and fewer combined pieces – the “bean pot” is the best of example of near-success. Well, that’s my two cents, take it or leave it- Lawrence, Army Officer, Kansas City”
“this exhibit was very interesting…I think that the glass artwork was impressive, and the way it was displayed was silly and fun…the symbolism of the pieces was cool and thought-provoking…but, with that big ferriswheel thing, my mom flipped out about the canue (I can’t spell) or blood or whatever…I was ok with it, but you know MOMS are…jeeze…she was like “Hannah! Shut your eyes!!” even though I’m 13…she does that all the time…like during previews when I’m FORCED to see movies with her…ok, well, I gotta go check out the rest of the stuff, and, once again, my mom’s flipping out next to me…hope you enjoyed this…hannah, student, Massachusetts”
