An Enchanting Evening…..
By Judy Rose
September 13th was the Crystal Ball – hopefully the first of a Museum of Glass tradition. Guests were greeted on Pacific Avenue and their cars were whisked away to be parked. Strolling across the Bridge of Glass, docents Maureen Drucker and Dee Smethurst could be seen in the distance holding bright colored banners for the guest to walk under. From the first warm welcome from Maureen and Dee – the 400 guests knew it was going to be a special evening, and indeed it was! The skies were bright blue, proudly framing Mt. Rainier in the distance, and the temperature was perfect to be outdoors enjoying the plazas.
The plaza had live music, Oracles (people of great knowledge), hors d’oeuvres being served and guests having their pictures taken in front of the cone…..Have you ever me an oracle? The Oracles provided answers to questions from the guests in their special magical way – they were quite entertaining and a unique surprise for the guests. The magic continued inside the hot shop where guests made wished on sting as it was passed around in the hot shop and then watched a never-seen-before amazing and mystical creation in the dark as the string turned into crystal wishes.
Cappy Thompson graciously unveiled her Gathering of the Light, to celebrate the first anniversary of the Museum of Glass. A beautiful dinner was catered by Lisa Duper. Entertainment in the Grand Hall included dancing, taro card readers and channeling.
Guests, staff and Volunteers were all smiling! There was much to celebrate, as our Glass Museum has been open for 1 year. Congratulations!
