Tacoma Museum District Celebrates Halloween with Special Activities for Families
Tacoma, Wash. (October 5, 2007)—The Museum of Glass, Tacoma Art Museum and Washington State History Museum will offer special activities to celebrate Halloween with a touch of culture. Each museum has scheduled hands-on activities, storytelling sessions and other fun and spooky experiences that will appeal to visitors of all ages. All activities are included with regular museum admission.

Halloween Spooktacular

The Museum of Glass invites families to a fun-filled afternoon of All Hallows Eve festivities. Join us for our costume and mask making workshop with prizes awarded to the most creative “ghouligans.” Paint a mini pumpkin with Larry Calkins, listen to spooky stories with Dashel Milligan and have your face painted with Ms. Lily Flamingo the Miraculous. FREE with paid admission.

Third Annual Day of the Dead Celebration
October 20 – November 4, 2007
Tacoma Art Museum partners with Centro Latino for the third year to present a celebration of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) from October 20 through November 4, 2007. This multi-day celebration highlights vibrant Latino culture and the eternal cycle of life and will feature a traditional tapete (sand painting) in the lobby, community-built altars or ofrendas, and a student artwork competition. The two weeks of festivities culminate in a FREE community celebration on Sunday, November 4, from 12 to 5 pm. Visitors can decorate colorful sugar skulls and enjoy a day of traditional Latino music, food, and dancing with FREE museum admission all day.

Just in time for Halloween, the History Museum offers visitors a fun—and not too scary—way to learn about people and places from Washington’s mysterious past. As you make your way through the Great Hall, you’ll encounter living-history actors portraying characters such as the only survivor of an 1899 shipwreck, a prospector from a real ghost town in Washington searching for his lost gold, and the washerwoman of Tacoma’s Stadium Gulch. The program is FREE with paid admission.
