Museum of Glass Kicks Off Its Fifth Anniversary Celebration with the Return of Night Blow
Tacoma, Wash. (March 30, 2007)— In observance of its Fifth Anniversary, the Museum of Glass will reintroduce Night Blow, an adults-only celebration of dramatic glass blowing demonstrations, music, dancing, great food and signature cocktails. The event will take place on Friday, June 15, 2007, from 7 to 11 p.m.
In the glass world, a ‘night blow’ is an opportunity for artists to invite friends into the studio to get an up-close view of working with glass in a party-like atmosphere. “We have hosted four Night Blow parties in the past,” commented Julie Pisto, director of communications for the Museum. “As we began planning festivities for our Fifth Anniversary in July, we thought this would be the ideal time to hold our fifth Night Blow.”
The event will immediately follow the members’ preview of the Museum’s Fifth Anniversary exhibition, Mining Glass, which opens to the public on June 16. Night Blow guests will be among the first to experience this dynamic new show that includes nine large-scale glass installations by eight influential contemporary artists. In the Hot Shop, Stephen Rolfe Powell will demonstrate nontraditional techniques of blowing glass by creating colorful, asymmetrical sculptures. Glassblowers will serve as disc jockeys for dancing and participate in a Karaoke session. Hearty hors d’oeuvres will be prepared by Gallucci’s Catering and a cash bar will feature a selection of signature cocktails.
Tickets to Night Blow are $30 per person in advance and $35 the night of the event. Museum of Glass members will be admitted for free and will have the option of purchasing two additional guest tickets for $15 each. Tickets will be available at the Museum’s admission desk or by calling 253.284.4719. Guests must be over 21.
