Special Appearance by Dale Chihuly and Team Chihuly in the Museum of Glass Hot Shop

Tacoma, Wash. (January 26, 2007)— The Museum of Glass is pleased to host Dale Chihuly, James Mongrain and Team Chihuly for a special appearance in the Museum of Glass Hot Shop on Saturday, February 3, 2007. From 1 to 5 p.m., Team Chihuly will demonstrate the art of making Ikebana, large-scale Venetian vessels that contain one to three long-stemmed glass flowers and leaves.

Four 55-minute sessions are scheduled beginning at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. The Museum will issue timed tickets for the Hot Shop demonstrations with a special event fee of $5 plus regular admission (children under age 6 and Museum of Glass members are free). Tickets will be issued beginning at 10 a.m. on a first come, first served basis. Chihuly will also conduct a Chihuly Art Kit signing session from 1 to 1:30 p.m. in the Museum’s Grand Hall.

Note: The Hot Shop will be closed until 1 p.m. Artist James Minson will demonstrate flame working techniques in the Grand Hall from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Team Chihuly:
Artists working with Dale Chihuly for this event include James Mongrain (lead gaffer), Daryl Smith, Robbie Miller, Joey DeCamp, Paul Cunningham, John Kiley, Dave Walters, D.H. McNabb, Jennifer Elek, Janusz Pozniak and Preston Singletary.

Schedule of Events:
1 – 5 p.m. Ikebana demonstrations by Dale Chihuly, James Mongrain and Team Chihuly in the Hot Shop (demonstrations begin at the top of each hour)

10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Flame working demonstrations by James Minson in the Grand Hall

1 – 1:30 p.m. Art Kit signing with Dale Chihuly in the Grand Hall

Hours & Admission

Open Wednesday through Saturday 10am to 5pm, Third Thursdays 10am to 8pm, Sunday 12pm to 5pm. Store is also open Tuesdays 10am – 5pm. Summer hours (Memorial Day through Labor Day): also open Monday and Tuesday from 10am to 5pm. Closed September 30th, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Admission is free for members, $10 general, $8 seniors, military and students (13+ with ID), $8 groups of 10 or more, $4 children (6-12) years old. Children under 6 are admitted free. Admission is free every third Thursday of the month from 5pm to 8pm.
