Museum of Glass Raises over $620,000 at Annual Gala and Auction
Tacoma, Wash. (October 2, 2009)—Three hundred and sixty artists and art lovers attended RENDEZVOUS AT RED HOT 2009, the Museum of Glass annual gala and auction, on Saturday, September 12, 2009. The event featured live and silent auctions with 105 items up for bid, including a wide array of glass art, vacation packages and exclusive experiences. The two auctions combined to raise a total of $624,139 for the Museum’s exhibition, education and Hot Shop programs.
“We are overwhelmed by the success of the evening,” stated Rosanne Nichols, director of advancement. “Our goal for the event was to raise $420,000—we exceeded this goal by nearly fifty percent! In this economy, that is something to celebrate. We are very grateful to all of our sponsors, donors and guests who came together to support this fantastic museum.”
“The funds raised will directly support our core programs and mission,” commented Tim Close, director and CEO. “We have a number of exciting exhibitions, Visiting Artist residencies and education programs in the planning stages for the next couple of years. The support we received from this event will help us to realize these projects.”
In addition to the auctions, RENDEZVOUS AT RED HOT 2009 featured a demonstration by artist Martin Blank in the Hot Shop. Blank created a piece from his new design series, Crystal Skin, based on Fluent Steps, his 210-foot long sculpture installed in the Museum’s Main Plaza reflecting pool. Furthermore Collective thrilled guests with a fire dancing display, live music was performed by jazz guitarist Barry Pollack, and the gourmet dinner was prepared and served by Gallucci’s Catering.
